This Highway That Runs Through Louisiana is One of the Nation’s Most Dangerous

It stretches from sea to shining sea and it passes right through Louisiana. But did you know that it is one of the most dangerous freeways in the United States? I’m talking, of course, about Interstate-10. The freeway runs through many cities in Louisiana, primarily in Jefferson and Orleans Parishes and, according to a study, the most dangerous portion of the entire highway is that part that runs through New Orleans. Researchers with ValuePenguin said that in the last five years, I-10 has seen more than 1,300 deadly accidents across the country. The highest concentration of them – 89 fatalities in all – happened in New Orleans. A good percentage of these fatal accidents occur in conditions where there is little to no light. Is Drowsy Driving as Dangerous as Drunk Driving?

“Don’t drink and drive.” It’s an unavoidable message, drilled into our children’s heads in school, blasted on the television during the evenings and lighting up street signs on nights and weekends. Most people understand the inherent dangers of drinking and driving. Alcohol reduces alertness, reaction time and focus, among other things, making the drunk driver a dangerous force on the road. How Wireless Communication Can Reshape Road Safety

The U.S. government, states and local communities across the country are hoping that a new technology can help make the roads safer. Driving is one of the most dangerous things that we do as Americans, and car accidents are a leading cause of death and serious injury. And while the crown jewel of the automobile revolution – the autonomous vehicle – usually lives in the limelight, there are other promising new developments that can help increase road safety. One of these is wireless vehicle-to-vehicle communication. This technology works by beaming signals like radio waves and Wi-Fi between vehicles so that the vehicles can share information with one another. This information can include things like speed, location and traffic conditions. Utilizing this information can help a vehicle adjust its safety systems to safely navigate hazards and traffic. Groups including the government have looked at this kind of safety feature with caution…
