A young man has recently died in a tragic car accident in the Lafayette area. He was driving on US 167 near River Road. Louisiana State Police say that they believe the man ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected and veered across the traffic divider. The turn was so severe that it caused the vehicle to partially roll.
He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, so the roll threw him from the vehicle. The ejection seriously injured him, and the coroner later declared him dead.
The only bright side in this tragedy is that the passenger survived the crash. He was wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred, and suffered only moderate injuries.
What Causes A Fatal Car Accident?
Police say that they are still investigating the accident, but that they suspect that impairment might have been a factor. Louisiana State Police warned about the dangers of impaired and distracted driving, and reminded everyone to wear their seatbelts. This is an apt reminder, since these are three of the biggest causes of fatal car accidents.
There’s a reason that safety experts so frequently stress the importance of seatbelts. The simple act of buckling up can save your life. While it’s impossible to know for sure, if this young man had been wearing a seatbelt, he may still be alive.
Be safe out there, everyone. The world can be a dangerous place. It’s important to do everything you can to take care of yourself and your family.
