He was standing next to a truck—talking to his neighbor—one second, and the next he was gone. Near the 3000 block of Toledano Street, a strange accident claims a life, and neighborhood residents reel as they try to figure out what happened.
“All of the sudden we heard some noise and the truck flipped over on the man,” a woman tells Fox8. “I left running to go get my husband so they could push the truck off the man, and my friend went running down the street screaming.”
What Caused The Accident?
A woman driving a gold Pontiac Grand Prix had suddenly lost control of her vehicle. The car crashed into a nearby parked Ford F150 and flipped the truck onto its side. Unfortunately, a man was standing on the other side of the truck, and the vehicle rolled on top of him.
What Happened To The Driver?
When police arrived, there was little they could do. The woman driving the Grand Prix was taken to the hospital for her injuries, and the police ordered a blood alcohol test. The woman claims that she blacked out right before the accident, but police are still trying to sort out the details.
Pedestrians can often find themselves facing the dangers of an out-of-control automobile, and in 2012 around 76,000 people were injured in accidents like this. That year, 4,743 pedestrians lost their lives, and 48 percent of those crashes involved alcohol. This is why it is so important to spread the word about pedestrian accidents and drunk driving.
