Management Should Have Protected their Employees from this Oil Explosion

Workplace safety must always be taken seriouslyA Louisiana court just awarded $13.6 million in settlements to four workers who were injured in an oil explosion at their workplace. According to the ruling, the company was guilty of negligence. Management was reportedly aware of dangers to employees, but still failed to fix the issues.

For much of the case, the parent company tried to limit the issue to its subsidiary, but the jury decided that since management had knowledge of the issue, the entire business was guilty of wrongdoing in the incident. The court found the parent company to be 95 percent responsible for the accident. The remaining blame was attributed two different supervisors at the worksite.

The men were awarded damages for ongoing medical expenses, lost pay, pain and suffering and mental anguish. This is a huge victory for the workers, who filed claims for their injuries back in 2013.

The company is appealing their case to 18th District Court in the hopes of getting a different result there.
