What Is Clovelly Oil Co.’s Safety Record?

A review of state records and news reports found that Clovelly Oil Co., owner of the oil rig that exploded in Lake Pontchartrain last week, has a decent record of safety over the last decade. However, it is not perfect. The oil rig explosion injured six workers and left one worker missing. The search for that worker has since been called off. The workers managed to escape the rig in their crew boat before being taken for medical treatment. Five were injured critically, while the other two were in stable condition as of the time of this writing. Lake Pontchartrain Oil Rig Explosion Injures 7, 1 Missing

Seven people were injured and one man is still missing after an oil rig explosion on Lake Pontchartrain. The explosion happened the night of October 15, causing a blast that could be heard miles away. Two of the victims are in stable condition, but the other five have critical injuries and burns. The rig is operated by CLOVELLY Oil. A spokesman for the company says the explosion occurred during maintenance. No sign of pollution resulting from the explosion has been detected.
