Why UL Lafayette Has Been Named a Bicycle-Friendly Campus

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL Lafayette) has been named a “bicycle-friendly campus” by the League of American Bicyclists. For its efforts in making cycling safer for students, UL Lafayette earned a bronze award. This award may seem insignificant to some, but the League of American Bicyclists only recognizes 127 universities and colleges nationwide. Developing cycling infrastructure can help students avoid the catastrophic consequences of bicycle accidents, which can cause death or permanent disability. There are two major changes at UL Lafayette that should help improve bicycle safety. Bike lanes can be extremely effective at separating traffic, pedestrians and cyclists. UL Lafayette recently installed bike lanes as part of a joint project with the Lafayette Consolidated Government.
