What Should I do After a Workplace Injury?

This provides injured workers with benefits, should they suffer injuries on the job. If you are injured at work, then you are likely entitled to workers’ compensation. Here’s how to get that compensation.

Steps to Take After a Workplace Injury

  • Obtain first aid – Obviously, your first concern is to get all necessary medical treatment as soon as possible. If it is not an emergency, make sure that there isn’t a specific doctor doesn’t cover your company. Once your health is taken care of, you can begin the process of seeking appropriate compensation.
  • Inform your supervisor – The first step to take is to report your injury to your supervisor. If possible, you should do so in writing, in an accident report. You have up to 90 days to report any injury, but there is no reason not to do so as soon as possible.
  • File a claim – If you lose time working due to your injury, file a claim for worker’s compensation on Form C-3 and mail it to an office of The Workers’ Compensation Board. This is not a lawsuit against your employer, as workers’ compensation bars this. Rather, it is a request for benefits. You have up to two years after your injury to file a claim. But again, there is no reason not to do so immediately. The sooner you file your claim, the sooner your employer can fill it.

Workers’ compensation covers nearly all instances of an employee’s injuries, including those caused by their own negligence. One notable exception is if drugs or alcohol are involved at the time of the injury.
