It is often said that the point of the civil justice system is to make a victim whole again. But what, exactly, does that mean? In this video, founding partner and attorney John Jefcoat offers an example of the result of a lawsuit he handled for a woman who was paralyzed in an accident. Nothing can change what happened, but an injured person can obtain money for medical bills, caretakers, rehabilitation costs, lost wages, as well as car and home renovations.

It gives them the ability to function in life. It gives the ability to pay for a caregiver. It gives the ability to pay for devices they may need. We represent, I represent a lady a young lady now. Who is, she’s a paraplegic. So, what we’re trying to do with her is get her house accommodated. To the point where everything in her home is going to be wheelchair level. If you get into a chair and go around your kitchen, you don’t have the ability even to use the toaster. Microwaves are high. So, she’s going to probably end up with a complete rebuild of her kitchen. So that she has the ability to function in her home.
The other thing we’re doing for her is were trying to get her the situation where she can actually drive. Actually, a car that she can drive with her hands. So, she has ability to pursue her life. She is in school currently at a university here in Louisiana. She’s taking online courses, and we expect her to graduate within a couple of years. But then she’s still at this point. She’s going to be about 24 years old. And so, what does she, what does she do at that point? She’s gonna have to have a career. She’s engaged. She’s trying to have a full life.
